After a run of mid-table finishes Bernd Krauss led his Mönchengladbach side to a successful 1994-95 campaign which brought a fifth-placed Bundesliga finish and the club's third DFB-Pokal success.

The latter rounds took die Fohlen past Mainz 05, Schalke 04 and Kaiserslautern and on to a final appearance against Wolfsburg. A one-sided game brought a comfortable 3-0 Mönchengladbach win with the goals scored by the team's kep players that season - midfield general Stefan Effenberg, powerful Swedish forward Martin Dahlin and breakout striker Heiko Herrlich who completed an excellent season with 26 goals.
