The 1998 – 99 season saw Eric Gerets’ Club Brugge finish a solid second in the league, beating rivals Anderlecht both home and away, and claiming Super Cup silverware with a victory over Racing Genk.

Featuring a balanced mix of experienced players, goal-threatening midfielders, and proven scorers such as Gert Claessens, Gert Verheyen and Edgaras Jankauskas, the squad capped off a successful second half of the decade. During this period, Club Brugge were crowned league champions twice, while European qualification became the norm, with top-three finishes being a given.
