Internazionale started the 1980s in style with coach Eugenio Bersellini leading the nerazzurri to Serie A success at the end of the 1979-80 season. This was Inter's twelfth scudetto and a first for nine years. With a powerful core of Italian players, Inter led the table from beginning to end. There were a number of draws but very few defeats, just two before the title was won on the 27th of April 1980 with a 2–2 draw against Roma. The title-clinching goal came from central defender Roberto Mozzini and was the only goal of his Inter career.
