Under coach Gigi Simoni, Genoa returned to Serie A in 1976, rejoining Italy’s top division. In the following season, il Grifone faced the Serie A campaign with a team full of character.

Among the standout players were the young striker Roberto Pruzzo, nicknamed by the fans “O’ Rey di Crocefieschi,” and the inventive forward Oscar Damiani, known as “Flipper,” both key figures thanks to their goals and creativity. Together they led a team guided on the pitch by experienced players such as Claudio Onofri, Ignazio Arcoleo, and goalkeeper Sergio Girardi.
