The success came after a thrilling battle with Club Brugge, the contest decided in the penultimate round as Lierse jumped ahead in the race after coming from behind to defeat Genk. Bob Peeters, newcomer Philip Haagdoren, and Brazilian Zefilho contributed strongly to the goal output of Eric Gerets' title-winning side.
