C.A. PEÑAROL RETRO COLLECTION

From Montevideo to the world, Peñarol is a pillar of South American football. Founded in 1891, this Uruguayan giant has built a legendary legacy with five Copa Libertadores titles and a fanbase that lives every match in black and yellow.

The collection features the CA Peñarol 1987 and 1997 Retro Football Shirts, tributes to two iconic eras in the club’s history.

1987 remains a seminal year for CA Peñarol, marking their most recent triumph as champions of South America. That unforgettable Copa Libertadores campaign peaked with a dramatic final against América de Cali. A late goal by Jorge Villar in the second leg forced a play-off, where Diego Aguirre sealed victory for the Montevideo giants with a legendary last-minute strike in extra time.

A decade later, Peñarol once again asserted their dominance — this time at home. The 1997 shirt celebrates the club's fifth consecutive national title during a golden run in the Uruguayan Primera División. Led by seasoned icons Pablo Bengoechea and Carlos Aguilera, Peñarol battled through the play-offs to defeat Nacional and Defensor, clinching the overall championship despite not winning the Apertura or Clausura.
