After years away from the top flight, Toulouse FC returned to Ligue 1 in 1982 with renewed ambition and a team ready to establish itself among the best in France.

Promotion had been secured under Pierre Cahuzac, a former Toulouse player whose connection to the club stretched back to the 1950s. His experience and understanding of the club helped guide Toulouse through their first season back, where an impressive 11th place finish confirmed that they were ready for the challenge.

A strong recruitment strategy added quality and character to the squad. French internationals Gérard Soler and Christian Lopez arrived alongside Jean Marc Ferratge and Hungarian midfielder Károly Csapó. Their experience made an immediate difference and provided the perfect environment for emerging talents such as Jean Philippe Durand to develop.
