Having established himself as a Bayern München legend for his coaching success there in the 70s, Udo Lattek returned and repeated the same trick the following decade too.

His four-year second spell came to an end at the climax of the 1986-87 season with Bayern losing out in the European Cup Final to FC Porto. The domestic story was very different though with Bayern crowned Bundesliga champions for the third successive season thanks a team again built around a core of seasoned West German stars in Matthäus, Brehme, Augenthaler, Wohlfarth and Michael Rummenigge.
