Having gone close by finishing as runners-up in both 1940 and 1943, the 1945-46 season saw Sevilla go one better and finish as champions of Spain for the sole time in the club’s history to date.

Barcelona were the main opponents for Los Rojiblancos throughout the season and, despite taking just a single point from their two encounters, Sevilla were ruthless enough in their other fixtures to end the season a point clear of the Catalans. The plentiful goals of José Campos and Juan Arza inspired this surprise title win while hopes of a League and Copa del Generalísimo double were ended at the semi-final stage by Valencia.
