Fears that competition at this level might be too fierce for los verdiblancos were never realised as the well-drilled side crafted by coach Antonio Barrios scored and conceded goals freely on the way to a strong 6th placed finish.

Highlights of the season included home and away derby wins against Sevilla and a crushing 7-0 home win over Real Zaragoza.
