The 1980’s were a relatively successful period for Vasco; With the help of club legend Roberto Dinamite and a young Romário, the club procured a grand total of 13 state titles and international honours such as the Colombino de Huelva (1980), the Joao Havelange tournament (1981), the Gold Cup (1987), and the Trofeu Ramon de Carranza (1987, 88, 89).

In addition to these, Vasco secured three state titles in 1982, 87, 88 and won the Serie A for a second time in 1989.
