In strong contention for the Serie A title until late in the season, points dropped in home games against Pisa and Torino cost them their championship chances and ultimately resulted in a third-placed finish. The ever-prolific Alessandro Altobelli contributed 15 goals and was comfortably the team's biggest goal threat.
