Almost a century after their formation in 1881, Watford FC hit the big time under their greatest ever manager, Graham Taylor. Taylor was in charge for the first time between 1977 and 1987 and he inspired the club to a meteoric rise from the fourth tier to top flight. A remarkable second-placed finish followed in 1983, then European football for the first time and an FA Cup Final appearance the following year. The club has remained in and around the big-time ever since.
