A third-placed finish well adrift of Juventus and Fiorentina represented something of a disappointment for Roma on the back of their strong title challenge the season before, but this was the season in which the components came together that would lead to that successful scudetto campaign the following year. Roberto Pruzzo remained untouchable in the scoring charts, Bruno Conti was Italy's best winger, Franco Tancredi was maturing into one of the division's best keepers and the Brazilian Falcao was arguably the best midfield general in the world game. Arriving this season from Genoa to join an all-star cast was sweeper Sebastiano Nela, and he would prove to be an integral part of the title-winning team that Nils Liedholm had so carefully assembled.
