Karl-Heinz Feldkamp spent just a single season coaching Eintracht Frankfurt during his long career, but it was a successful one in 1987-88 as he led the Eagles to a fourth DFB-Pokal success.

Schalke 04, SSV Ulm, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Bayer Uerdingen and Werder Bremen were all eliminated en route to a final encounter with VfL Bochum. This game was decided by a free-kick goal nine minutes from time by the club's star playmaker Lajos Détari.

The Hungarian had shone throughout the run as part of a strong team which featured the talented West German internationals Uli Stein and Manfred Binz plus the impressive Polish pair Wlodzimierz Smolarek and Janusz Turowski.
