The 1964-65 season proved to be even more spectacular for Internazionale than even its wildly successful predecessor. This time round the club won back the Serie A title with an emphatic campaign that brought just two defeats and won a first Intercontinental Cup after three demanding games against the Argentinians of Independiente.

The greatest pride came from the successful retention of the European Cup. This campaign was tougher with close-run matches against Rangers and Liverpool after an easy opener against Dinamo Bucharest, but Inter prevailed to reach the Final against Benfica. The match was played on home turf at San Siro and a goal by the Brazilian wide forward Jair was enough to win the game for Herrera's legendary side.
